About Me

I’m the girl you met the other day in the grocery store. She made you wanna say something to her. You did. And now you can’t remember her name. But that wasn’t really the important part of the meeting anyway.

I’m too old to still play on the monkey bars. But I do. Too young to remember Sam Cooke. But I listen to him anyway.

I like making stuff (especially collages), running, making up my mind and sticking to it, and baking cookies and cakes; almost anything by James Baldwin; almost anything with black beans in it; and probably more than is healthy for the average human: I like alone time and ice cream—not necessarily together.

Sometimes I dance; I also daydream constantly. And I write poetry. Sometimes I teach it to people. Sometimes I read or recite it to people. And even less often I publish it.

Some people think I’m shy.  Others think I’m a mute.  Sometimes my phone bill was extremely high.  But that was before the Everything Plan.

I could be more tolerant of overpriced grapes, people who drive down the highway with parking lights on, and deafening car stereos.

I like to laugh but don’t do it as often as I should.  There are other things that could fit in this category, but many are illegal in no less than 47 states so I’ll refrain from listing them here.

I intend to be faster than I am today and to become one of the most important people of this century.  Or neither.  We’ll see.

I’m in love with your eloquence, your verbal poise, and your way of though. Kudos!

  2. I love your sense of self. You acknowledge the fact that you have deminsions and you seem content with that. Go take a look at my ‘About Me’ section. I can’t say the same…

  3. Darlene,

I was a pleasure working with you. You are an awsome person. In fact being around you made me feel like I was with a friend rather than at work.

    Happy New year!

  5. Hey Frugal Expat, thanks…I was looking at your website, too.
My plans of being an expat fell through in ’08 and I haven’t been able to leave the country since…bad travel karma maybe (among other things)…
